June 9 (UPI) -- Free safety Tyvis Powell was given the honor to throw out the first pitch at Friday's Cleveland Indians game. Hours before taking the mound, he was cut by the Cleveland Browns.
The Browns announced the roster move Friday afternoon. He was claimed off of waivers in February. Powell signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2016 out of Ohio State. He appeared in eight games last season, but didn't get any snaps on defense.
The 23-year-old tweeted immediately after the transaction. He still threw out the games first pitch against the Chicago White Sox at Progressive Field.
"When obstacles arise, you change your direction to reach your goal, you do not change your decision to get there," he wrote.

Cleveland.com reported that the Browns did not know Powell was scheduled to throw the first pitch.
The Browns are deep at the position, after trading for Calvin Pryor and drafting Jabrill Peppers.
