Sheldon Richardson: New York Jets see addition by subtraction of Brandon Marshall

Brandon Marshall is no longer a member of the New York Jets, but the well-traveled wide receiver remained a talking point for former teammates after organized team activities Tuesday.

Defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson told a horde of media in front of his locker following a crisp workout that team chemistry was decidedly improved. Rather than stopping there and leaving reporters and fans to guess the reasons why a new-look roster might be more cohesive, Richardson bowed, smiled and said, "let's just say we've got 15 reasons why it's better," a reference to Marshall's former uniform number.

The Giants signed Marshall to a two-year deal and he's entering his 12th NFL season after stops in Denver, Miami, Chicago and the past two seasons with the Jets.

Marshall campaigned most of last off-season for the Jets to bring back quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, and his outspoken position on that topic and others rubbed several team leaders the wrong way.

Former Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis and Marshall had a well-publicized spat in training camp in 2016, when Marshall took a swing at Revis.

Marshall and then-teammate Martellus Bennett almost came to blows while they were with the Chicago Bears. Bennett had a scrum with cornerback Kyle Fuller and Marshall criticized Bennett, who told Marshall "Six-time Pro Bowlers can get knocked out, too."

Running back Matt Forte, who played with Marshall and for the Bears from 2012-14, said Marshall wouldn't talk to him after Forte called him out. Quarterback Jay Cutler, a teammate of Marshall's with the Bears and earlier in their careers with the Broncos, pointed to Marshall as a reason for some of the team's recent dysfunction.
