Garrett was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M. The Browns now have signed six of its picks from April's draft. Those signings include defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi, defensive back Howard Wilson, offensive lineman Rob Johnson, kicker Zane Gonzalez and running back Matthew Dayes.

Coach Hue Jackson already is impressed with his top selection and his defensive line overall in practice.

"Did you see that guy come off the edge that one time today?" Jackson asked reporters Saturday. "Holy smokes. Oh my gosh. Ogunjobi, he is a physical presence on the inside. I like our young guys. I love our young D linemen -- him and [DL Caleb] Brantley and obviously Myles. Those guys are talented players. It is competition. Guys have to step it up all over the place, but these guys have to keep proving themselves each and every day."

Hall of Fame defensive end Bruce Smith has served as a mentor for Garrett. Some of his recent advice even served as motivation. Smith said Garrett was "slow off the ball."

"Unlike what [a reporter] said, he said I was slow off the ball, but that is coming from the very best," Garrett told reporters Sunday. "He is just trying to teach me the tricks that I can get off the ball faster and do it even better. If I learn that and keep on practicing that, then I will perform at a high level."

Browns team captain Joe Thomas is also impressed with his new teammate.

"I'm just impressed with his demeanor and his willingness to learn and his humbleness," Thomas recently told The Cleveland Plain Dealer. "But also you see that fire that's burning inside him to be great and I think those are the hallmarks of guys that have a chance to be really excellent football players."

Garrett had 31 sacks, 141 tackles and seven forced fumbles in 34 career games for the Aggies. He was a two-time first-team All-American.
