Arizona Cardinals linebacker Deone Bucannon recently underwent ankle surgery and will be sidelined for three to four months, according to coach Bruce Arians.

Bucannon initially injured the ankle in November and was eventually placed on injured reserve. The ligaments didn't heal and the surgical procedure is expected to help solve the issue.

Arians said there is an outside chance Bucannon could be recovered in time for the season opener against the Detroit Lions on Sept. 10.

"There's always that chance that it won't (be healed)," Arians said of the timetable per the opener.

Bucannon recorded 89 tackles in 13 games last season. He has posted more than 80 tackles in each of his three NFL seasons and has five sacks, four recoveries and one interceptions.
