May 11 (UPI) -- Denard Robinson is on the Chicago Bears 2017 rookie minicamp roster. The former Jacksonville Jaguars running back is entering his fifth NFL season.
The 26-year-old, nicknamed "Shoelace," averaged 4.3 yards per carry in his second season after the Jaguars snagged him in the fifth-round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He slipped to 4.0 yards per carry in 2015.
Last season, Robinson ran for 144 yards on 41 carries in 13 games. The Bears have one of the best running backs in the game in Jordan Howard. During his rookie season, Howard ran for 1,313 yards and six touchdowns. His rushing yards total was second, behind Dallas Cowboys rookie Ezekiel Elliott. He also had 298 receiving yards on 29 receptions.
Despite Howard's heroics, the Bears had just the No. 7 rushing offense in the NFC.
The Bears also have Jeremy Langford, Benny Cunningham, rookie Tarik Cohen and Ka'Deem Carey on its depth chart, making Robinson a long shot to make the roster. Chicago has five running backs trying out at rookie minicamp. The Bears signed Cohen to his rookie deal on Thursday.
