The Chicago Bears released receiver Eddie Royal, the club announced Thursday.
Royal was due $5 million this coming season in the final year of a three-year, $15 million contract. He was a disappointing performer over this two seasons with the Bears.
Royal, who turns 31 on May 21, caught just 70 passes for 607 yards and three touchdowns in 18 games with Chicago. He also had a punt return for a touchdown in 2016.
Royal missed time with a knee injury in 2015, and a toe injury last season.
The Bears also released defensive lineman Will Sutton, fullback Paul Lasike and center Cornelius Edison.
