Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck revealed Monday he originally injured his surgically repaired right throwing shoulder early in the 2015 season and played through pain the past two years.

Luck and the Colts decided to hold off on surgery after the 2015 season and go with rehab in his recovery. The franchise quarterback then aggravated the injury last season and decided on surgery this offseason.

"It originally occurred a couple years ago against (the Tennessee Titans in Week 3)," Luck told reporters during the team's first day of voluntary offseason workouts. "We sort of sat down after that year and felt like rehab (last offseason) was the way to go."

Luck said he aggravated the shoulder in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos.

The surgery on Luck's shoulder is expected to keep him out of most of the team's nine-week offseason workout program.

"It was my decision, ultimately," Luck said of the surgery. "The team gave me all the resources that I felt like I needed to make the best decision. We sat down after the year with our guys in this building and talked and then went out and got a lot of really good opinions from a lot of doctors around the country.

"At the end of the day, I never felt like anybody else was trying to make a decision for me. I made this decision with what I felt was the best information I could find. I have no regrets about going to get surgery."

Luck missed one game in 2016 with a concussion but was listed on the injury report every week.

The 27-year-old Luck completed a career-high 63.5 percent of his passes last season for 4,240 yards with 31 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He was sacked 41 times as the Colts missed the playoffs with an 8-8 record.

"There were times when you play through pain, there were times when it felt great," Luck said of the 2016 season. "The reality is everybody plays through pain in the NFL. I've played through pain every year. This was a little different beast from the standpoint of, as you guys know, my practice schedule was different and altered and certainly that made things difficult from a preparation standpoint."
