Veteran cornerback Jason McCourty announced on Twitter Thursday that he is being released by the Tennessee Titans.

McCourty, 29, is the longest-tenured member of the Titans after being drafted in the sixth round in 2009 and was due a base salary of $7 million in 2017 as part of a six-year extension signed in 2012.

"In 2009 the TN Titans took a chance and drafted a young 21 year old kid from Rutgers with their 203rd pick," McCourty said on the Twitter account he shares with his twin brother, New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty. "Never could I have imagined it would be 8 years before I would be saying goodbye. I can't thank the Titans organization, my teammates, and the Adams family enough, they have been tremendous to my family and me.

"God has carried me this far and blessed me with so many opportunities, I can't wait to see which city he places me next to continue my career! And to the fans, thank you so much for all the support throughout the years, it's been one hell of a ride! #TitanUp one last time."

McCourty recorded 13 interceptions in 108 games with the Titans -- 90 starts. He recorded six forced fumbles and returned a pair for touchdowns.
