Notre Dame QB DeShone Kizer's draft stock dropping out of first round

April 12 (UPI) -- Notre Dame's DeShone Kizer is slipping down in the latest mock drafts.

The gunslinger has dropped from NFL.com's No. 1 ranked quarterback to its No. 4 ranked passer, according to Mike Mayock's latest projections.

Mayock ranks Deshaun Watson as his top passing prospect, followed by Mitchell Trubisky, Patrick Mahomes and Kizer. California quarterback Davis Webb is his fifth-favorite option in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Bucky Brooks is the only NFL.com draft analyst who has the Irish quarterback going in the first round. Brooks projects Kizer as the No. 30 overall selection by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Kizer completed 58.7 percent of his passes for 2,925 yards, 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 12 games last season. During his sophomore season, he completed 62.9 percent of his passes for 2,880 yards, 21 scores and 10 interceptions.

The decorated prospect is listed as 6 feet, 4 inches tall and 233 pounds. Kizer's NFL comparison is former NFL MVP Steve McNair, according to his draft profile.

Part of the reason for Kizer's fall could rest on his attitude. NFL executives aren't sold on Kizer's "attitude and maturity," according to CBS Sports. Brian Kelly, Kizer's coach at Notre Dame, also hasn't been raving about his former quarterback.

Kelly told SiriusXM NFL Radio on April 3 that Kizer should still be in school. He added that Kizer needs more time to grow "on the field" and "off the field."

Kizer, 21, has worked out for the Buffalo Bills, Arizona Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Chargers, and Chicago Bears. He has also been linked to the New Orleans Saints.

The junior quarterback is not a projected first-round selection in the latest UPI 2017 NFL mock draft.
