April 6 (UPI) -- One of the greatest running backs of all time is still looking for a team and plans to visit the New Orleans Saints.

Adrian Peterson visited the New England Patriots Monday, but left without a new contract. The 32-year-old former NFL MVP will head to the Bayou next week, according to NFL.com.

It will mark Peterson's third stop in free agency since being cut in March by the Minnesota Vikings. Peterson visited the Seattle Seahawks at his first stop, before traveling to Foxborough. The Seahawks decided to sign free agent Eddie Lacy, while the Patriots are seeking a reunion with LeGarrette Blount.

Up to five teams are interested in signing the seven-time Pro Bowler, according to reports. The Saints could be a tough fit, as the team already has a great option in Mark Ingram.

Peterson was also previously linked to the Oakland Raiders, who are now considering a deal with Marshawn Lynch. Lynch hasn't played since stepping away from the game after the 2015 season.

Peterson was also linked to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week after being spotted working out with quarterback Jameis Winston. Despite Buccaneers coach Dirk Koetter making positive comments about the veteran, a Tampa Bay Times report suggested there is "almost no way to picture" Peterson with the franchise.

Peterson was originally due $18 million in 2017, before being cut. The Saints currently have Travaris Cadet, Daniel Lasco, and Marcus Murphy as its backups to Ingram.
