Jerry Jones wants teams to talk Tony Romo, Denver Broncos and Houston Texans won't trade

April 3 (UPI) -- Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones really wants someone to trade for veteran quarterback Tony Romo. But the Denver Broncos and Houston Texan's aren't interested.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Cowboys gave NFL general managers permission to speak to the quarterback Monday. Garafolo reported that teams can contact Romo or his agent and schedule a workout, visit, or physical.

Romo, 36, is currently under contract through 2019. He is due $14 million in 2017. The Cowboys were reportedly planning to release the four-time Pro Bowl gunslinger, before deciding to retain him at the start of the new league year. The Broncos and Texans have been the teams linked to him for months.

NFL Network national insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday that neither team will trade for Romo. During Romo's last full season in 2014, he made the Pro Bowl after passing for 3,705 yards, 34 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He also led the NFL with a 69.9 completion percentage. Garafolo also reported that other franchises are "limited to conversations concerning Romo's current contract" and not allowed to discuss a deal as a free agent.

Last week, CBS Sports' Joel Corry reported that a "logical ending point" for Romo's offseason drama is April 17. That is the date when the Cowboys start offseason workouts. If Romo doesn't show up for the workouts, his salary could be cut by $500,000.

USA TODAY's Tom Pelissero reported last month that Jones said his deadline for a decision on Romo was training camp.

Multiple reports have suggested over the last two months that Romo's two options are playing for the Texans or retiring.
