Miami Dolphins sign Kiko Alonso to three-year, $25 million extension

The Miami Dolphins locked up linebacker Kiko Alonso with a contract that runs through the 2020 season.

Miami tendered Alonso at the first-round restricted free agent compensation level of $3.91 million for 2017. According to the NFL Network, the two sides agreed to a three-year, $25 million deal with $18.5 million guaranteed that begins with the 2018 campaign.

Alonso led the Dolphins with 115 tackles last season and also had two interceptions. He tied for the NFL lead with four fumble recoveries.

Alonso was a second-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2013 and racked up 159 tackles and four interceptions while earning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. He missed the following season with a knee injury before being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles the following offseason.

After one season with the Eagles, he was traded to the Dolphins on March 9, 2016.
