March 14 (UPI) -- You should expect some special treats when you are a free agent.

But when its also your birthday, nothing is off limits. Don't'a Hightower, one of the top free agents this offseason, is being courted by multiple teams trying to capture his services for the 2017 season. {link: ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the New York Jets had a unique attempt at wowing the linebacker. The Jets sent him cupcakes.

On the day of his 27th birthday, the Jets sent Hightower's mother team merchandise and brought him out to dinner. The franchise also sent him some delicious iced treats. During his visit with the Jets, the team also had 'Happy Birthday Don't'a Hightower' on all of the screens in its training facility, according to Schefter.

Hightower also visited the Pittsburgh Steelers, but left without a deal.

The 27-year-old earned his first Pro Bowl nod last season with 31 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a forced fumble for the New England Patriots.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reported Tuesday that the Jets' interest in Hightower "cannot be overstated." He doesn't expect the Steelers to make a "massive" offer. A return to the Patriots isn't completely out of the question.
