Former New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith is planning to meet with the Giants, who are searching for a backup to Eli Manning.

The 26-year-old free agent was expected to visit with the Giants on Saturday, according to multiple reports.

Smith was a second-round draft pick by the Jets out of West Virginia in 2013. He earned the starting job as a rookie and led the Jets to an 8-8 record.

The Jets went 3-10 in games Smith started in 2014 and he lost the starting job after being punched by teammate I.K. Enemkpali in training camp in 2015.

Smith tore the ACL in his knee in Week 7 during his only start of the 2016 season and might not be able to participate in football activity until training camp.

Smith played in 33 games (30 starts) in his four seasons with the Jets, completing 57.9 percent of his passes for 5,962 yards with 28 touchdowns with 36 interceptions.

Smith told the NFL Network last month that he would consider going to a team as a backup.

"I'm open to it," Smith said. "That's not my goal. ... I was brought into this league, I was brought to the Jets, to be a certain caliber of player and being injured for two years has kind of taken that away from me. My mistakes were shown on the field my first two years, then me getting better has kind of been behind the scenes.

"The next time I step on the field it will be what people expect. People want to see you get better. They want to see you move past your mistakes. I've done that. I've just done it behind the scenes."
