San Francisco 49ers signing Brian Hoyer

March 8 (UPI) -- NFL journeyman quarterback Brian Hoyer is adding another jersey to his closet.

After spending the first three seasons of his career with the New England Patriots, Hoyer played a season for the Arizona Cardinals. He spent two seasons with the Cleveland Browns, before spending 2015 and 2016 with the Houston Texans and Chicago Bears, respectively.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that Hoyer is headed to the San Francisco 49ers. The 31-year-old completed 134-of-200 passes for 1,445 yards, six touchdowns, and zero interceptions in six games last season. He threw a career-high 19 touchdowns in 2015 for the Texans.

New 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan was Hoyer's offensive coordinator in 2014 with the Browns. The Chicago Tribune reported about the possible move Wednesday afternoon, writing: "indications at this point" were that Hoyer would land with the 49ers.

The Bears are expected to sign free agent Mike Glennon.
