March 7 (UPI) -- The New England Patriots agreed to a two-year deal with fullback James Develin ahead of free agency, according to reports Monday.
Develin, an impending unrestricted free agent, was one of the lead blockers last season for LeGarrette Blount, who had 1,161 rushing yards and a franchise-record 18 rushing touchdowns.
Develin, 28, has been with the Patriots since 2012, playing in every game in three of the last four seasons. He missed the 2015 season with a broken leg suffered in training camp.
The 6-foot-3, 255-pound Develin did not have a rushing attempt and caught just five passes for 31 yards in 2016, including the playoffs. But he played in 30.7 percent of the offensive snaps and 33.7 percent of special teams snaps in contributing to the Patriots' Super Bowl title, according to the Boston Globe.
Free agency officially gets underway at 4 p.m. ET on Thursday.
