Feb. 22 (UPI) -- National champion Deshaun Watson has a solution for the Dallas Cowboys' quarterback dilemma.

He thinks the franchise should draft him, despite it holding the No. 28 pick in the draft and having two able gunslingers on its roster. Watson is currently expected to be drafted earlier in the first round. Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is the hottest name in free agency at the position after rookie Dak Prescott took his job during a terrific rookie campaign.

"I know y'all remember last year, I said I like being in Ft. Worth, TX," Watson said as he was honored Monday at a ceremony in Ft. Worth. "I told coach [Jason] Garrett that if I'm back here, you have to draft me. So, I know it's a lot of Cowboys' fans -- Tony Romo is healthy, Dak [Prescott], I'm a huge fan. I love that man [and] got the privilege to get to know him this year and text him...he's been successful."

Watson was a two-time winner of the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award.

"I fell in love with him, but I did my part. Y'all gotta do your part," Watson said, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

"It's awesome to be able to get to know you these two years and just see the success that the Cowboys [are] having. I was a fan this year," said the ACC Player of the Year. "Like I said, me and Dak had the privilege to get to know each other [and I'm] a good friend with [Ezekiel Elliott]. It's just a bright future for that franchise, so thank you and best of luck."

Texas A&M's Myles Garrett, who is expected to be the top pick in the draft, previous made a plea to be drafted by the Cowboys. Garrett also suggested that the Cowboys trade Romo. Watson led Clemson to a National Championship victory against No. 1 Alabama last month.

"Still, though," Watson continued amongst laughter and still wearing a smile of his own. "The Browns do need a quarterback and you could trade both of them. I'll be sitting right here. [Hey], they need two."
