Denver Broncos want to meet with wide receiver Victor Cruz

Feb. 15 (UPI) -- He was a roster casualty on Monday, now Victor Cruz could join a contender.

The Denver Broncos are "already working to at least meet with" Cruz, according to ESPN's Jeff Legwold. The 30-year-old free agent had 1,536 yards and nine touchdowns during his first full season in 2011. He upped his touchdown total to 10 scores during his 2012 Pro Bowl campaign.

Cruz's career then hit the crossroads in 2014 when he tore his patellar tendon. He sat out the 2015 season and had 586 yards and a score on 39 catches last season. The Broncos have plenty of cap space and could opt to draft an option to play the No. 3 role behind Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders.

"It's been an amazing journey," Cruz told the Giants' website Tuesday. "I pretty much grew up in front of the eyes of this entire organization. The Giants fan base, the community, my hometown, my family. I grew up there. It's very much a family atmosphere and it's very much like leaving your family. That's what it feels like. I did some great things there. There are so many experiences, times and moments that I shared in that building with that team in that jersey. Those can't be replaced or forgotten. I'm happy I have those moments to look back on."

The Giants saved $7.5 million by cutting Cruz.

"This isn't the end," Cruz said in a video for UNINTERRUPTED. "I still have some football left in front of me. I still want to play the game of football. I feel like I have a lot to offer the national football league. As these days go on here, hopefully some phone calls start to ring and we're playing some football. But I just want to focus on my health, focus on my family right now."

Cruz, known for his touchdown salsa dance, signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of the University of Massachusetts.
