New York Jets have "eyes on" QB Mike Glennon

Feb. 4 (UPI) -- With just Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg at the top of its quarterback depth chart, the New York Jets need to make an addition in order not to remain one of the worst teams in football.

According to NJ Advance Media's Connor Hughes, the Jets "seem to have their eyes on" free agent quarterback Mike Glennon. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup has completed 59.4 percent of his passes for 4,100 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions in 21 career appearances. He owns a 5-13 record as a starter.

Glennon, 27, was a third round pick by the Buccaneers in the 2013 NFL Draft.

"Tyrod Taylor is an option of he leaves the Bills," NJ.com's Connor Hughes wrote. "So is Brian Hoyer. I think the most likely scenario is a guy you don't have mentioned: Mike Glennon. The Jets seem to have their eyes on him."

In December, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Glennon's market at an estimated $13 million to $15 million. The Jets selected Hackenberg in the second round of last year's draft, meaning spending that kind of cash on an additional gunslinger might make for a bulky investment.

The Buccaneers didn't receive any calls for Glennon during last year's draft, but were expected to keep shopping the young gunslinger.

A Jets source told the New York Daily News last month that Hackenberg just isn't good enough.

"He will never make it," the Jets source told the Daily News. "Never."

An anonymous Jets starter simply responded with "no" when asked by the Daily News if Hackenberg was worth a second round pick.

Bryce Petty underwent surgery last month to repair his torn left labrum. Petty completed 75-of-133 passes for 809 yards, three touchdowns, and seven interceptions in six games last season.

The Jets could use a quarterback who takes care of the football, after placing last in turnover differential in 2016. Jets quarterbacks compiled a league-worst 67.6 quarterback rating last season and threw a league-high 25 interceptions.
