The Seattle Seahawks could be flagged for a costly penalty long after their season has been completed.

Seattle may lose its second-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft as a result of its failure to disclose a knee injury to Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported on Thursday, citing league sources.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll revealed during Monday's interview on 710 ESPN Radio that Sherman was being plagued by an MCL injury for the second half of the season.

"Honestly, I didn't realize we hadn't revealed it," Carroll said at the time. "I don't even remember what game it was, it was somewhere in the middle (of the season)."

Carroll said on his weekly radio show that Sherman's sustained an MCL injury and said it was of a similar variety to the injury Russell Wilson suffered in Week 3. Wilson was listed with a knee injury on the injury report into early December. Meanwhile, Sherman was listed as "limited" or "did not participate" on several practice reports without disclosure of a knee injury, as required by league injury-reporting policy.

Sherman appeared with an injury once all season, an ankle ailment leading up to Seattle's Week 12 game with Tampa Bay.

"I don't know," Carroll said later on Monday when asked why Sherman was never listed on the report. "I'm feeling like I screwed that up with not telling you that because that happened, but he was OK. So I don't know. He never missed anything, which is probably why."

NFL league policy states: "The Practice Report is expected to provide clubs and the public an accurate description of a player's injury status and his level of participation during the practice week. All players who have significant or noteworthy injuries must be listed on the Practice Report, even if the player takes all the reps in practice, and even if the team is certain that he will play in the upcoming game. This is especially true of key players and those players whose injuries have been covered extensively by the media."

Seattle already has received a fifth-round forfeiture on Sept. 19 for a repeat violation of rules governing offseason workouts. The Seahawks were also fined $400,000 and Carroll $200,000 for what the league deemed violations of rules that prohibit excessive on-field physical contact during a June 6 organized team activity.
