OAKLAND, Calif., Dec. 26 (UPI) -- Oakland Raiders fans are likely at a loss for words when it comes to how they feel about losing gunslinger Derek Carr to a broken leg.

Watching Carr get carted from the field in a Christmas Eve victory over the Indianapolis Colts was akin to watching its postseason aspirations come and go in a flash.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday that Carr will have a six to eight week recovery timetable after having surgery Tuesday on his fractured fibula. Carr will have the leg surgery in Los Angeles.

The Pro Bowl selection and NFL MVP candidate completed 63.7 percent of his passes for 3,933 yards, 28 touchdowns, and six interceptions, while posting a 12-3 record for the Raiders.

The winner of the AFC West is still to be determined. Carr is due $977,519, with a $150,000 roster bonus and $25,000 roster bonus, in 2017. He is a free agent in 2018. The Raiders battle the Denver Broncos at 4:25 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1 at Sports Authority Field.
