SEATTLE -- Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett suffered a broken ankle in the second quarter while making a 28-yard reception late in the first half of Saturday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.

As Lockett caught a pass from quarterback Russell Wilson near the goal line, Arizona cornerback Brandon Williams fell on Lockett's leg, snapping the ankle in a gruesome injury.

Lockett was carted off the field after a short delay while officials looked at the replay.

The play was initially ruled a touchdown, but replays showed that Lockett's knee hit the ground before the goal line, giving Seattle a first-and-goal at the Arizona 1.

ESPN reported that surgery will be required and Lockett will be out for the season.
