MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Thinking of taking the risk and starting former All-Pro Adrian Peterson in your fantasy football league title game?

Don't do it.

On Friday, the Minnesota Vikings ruled Peterson out of its Week 16 contest against the Green Bay Packers. Peterson returned to the Vikings last weekend after missing most of the season because of the torn meniscus he suffered in Week 2. He had just 22 yards on six carries against the Indianapolis Colts before hurting his groin. He played just 12 snaps in the loss.

The Vikings might have made a mistake in rushing back Peterson. Multiple reports stated that the standard recovery time for his injury was four-to-six months, while Peterson returned in three months.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported last week that the team planned on leaving his return for this weekend, before seeing him at practice and suiting him up against the Colts.

"He looks like Adrian," a source told Rapoport. "He's amazing."

Peterson looked nothing like his former self in the loss, struggling behind the Vikings' terrible offensive line while sporting a knee brace. He could also be attempting to adjust to offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur and his shotgun based scheme. Peterson was officially activated from injured reserve on Dec. 17.

ESPN's Ben Goesling said that he expected Peterson to be "worked in slowly."

Peterson, 31, is definitely a must-drop in redraft leagues. He is a questionable keeper for 2017. He had just 72 yards on 37 carries for a measly 1.9 yards per tote this season. The Vikings could have a decision to make on the all-time great talent. Peterson is due more than $17 million in 2017 before hitting free agency in 2018. The Vikings promoted C.J. Ham from its practice squad to cover for Peterson.
