EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Shane Vereen might have a tough time making the New York Giants' 2017 roster after barely seeing the field this season.

The running back spent two months on injured reserve due to a torn triceps. He returned in Week 14, but re-tore his triceps Sunday in the Giants' Week 15 win against the Detroit Lions. Vereen, 27, is due $3.15 million, with a $500,000 roster bonus next season. He is a free agent in 2018.

Rashad Jennings and Paul Perkins will resume control of the Giants' backfield. Vereen had 20 yards from scrimmage on four touches before going down. He totaled 252 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown on 44 touches this season.
