PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- It's time to drop Philadelphia Eagles running back Wendell Smallwood from your fantasy football team.

The rookie was knocked out in the first half of the Eagles' Week 14 loss to the Washington Redskins after suffering a right knee injury. Smallwood was diagnosed with a sprained MCL Monday. He ends his season with 367 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown on 83 touches. He also scored on a kickoff return.

Smallwood was selected in the fifth round of April's NFL Draft. He was a decent, yet inconsistent, flex option for a small stretch this season. Smallwood likely will be a late-round flier in fantasy football drafts.

With Darren Sproles in the concussion protocol, the Eagles' backfield stable is down to Ryan Mathews and Kenjon Barner. Mathews as a low-end RB2/risky flex play, but only if you are absolutely desperate at the position. I would not recommend taking that risk in the fantasy football playoffs.
