The race is on for the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft on April 27 and the clubhouse leader right now is Cleveland.

The Browns, 0-13 after Sunday's game against Cincinnati, have a one-game edge on the San Francisco 49ers.

According to ESPN.com, the Browns will select Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett with the top pick should they have the chance.

Adam Schefter reported the Browns have what one source described as an "astronomical grade" on Garrett.

Rob Rang of NFLDraftScout.com says Garrett is the best player in this draft class with his ability to impact the pocket from the edge.

That means the Browns would pass on a potential franchise quarterback, perhaps DeShone Kizer of Notre Dame or Mitch Trubisky of North Carolina. Many expect Kizer, a junior, to announce he will turn pro as soon as this week.

The Browns have not drafted a quarterback in the top 20 since 1999. They have another pick via a trade with Philadelphia in the first round and Trubisky, a Cleveland-area native, might be their man.

Trubisky completed 68.9 percent of his passes for 3,468 yards this past season. He threw 28 touchdowns passes and only four interceptions for the Tar Heels.

Alabama defensive end Jonathan Allen is another prospect who is receiving mention as a possible No. 1 overall choice.

The Browns are still spending a lot of time scouting quarterbacks, but Garrett seems to be their man -- at least this time.

The last player from Texas A&M the Browns drafted was quarterback Johnny Manziel in 2014.
