Buffalo Bills have "possible eye" on Tony Romo, who "eyes" Denver Broncos

BUFFALO, N.Y., Dec. 11 (UPI) -- If the Buffalo Bills decided to ditch Tyrod Taylor's contract after this season, it could pursue Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, according to one NFL Insider.

NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport wrote Sunday that the Bills have an option to pick up Taylor's remaining $27.5 million deal after this season, but it "hasn't decided what it will do."

The 27-year-old Taylor signed a six-year, $92 million extension in August. He is due $12 million in 2017, with a $15.5 million option bonus. Taylor has completed 211-of-348 passes for 2,292 yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions this season. He also has six touchdowns and 469 yards on 73 carries.

"He's got 4 more games to write this chapter," Bills general manager Doug Whaley recently told WGR 550. "Then after this season, like everybody on the team, we're going to do an evaluation and then we'll go from there. But this season is one of those things where he's done some things really good to get us to six wins. But just like everybody on the team, there are some plays that he wishes he could do over."

Rapoport specified that the Bills could decide to redo Taylor's contract altogether. If Buffalo choose not to bring him back, there are plenty of appealing alternatives.

"If the Bills decide Taylor is not their quarterback of the future, expect them to be active in the veteran quarterback market with a possible eye on Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo," Rapoport wrote. "Jay Cutler and Colin Kaepernick also could be on their radar."

Although Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones recently told ESPN's Todd Archer there is "no consideration" for not having Romo on his 2017 roster, other reports have focused on the Denver Broncos as an attractive destination for the veteran gunslinger.

Rapoport reported in November that Romo "has eyes" on the Broncos.

Romo 36, hasn't played a full season since 2012. He played in 15 games during the 2013 and 2014 seasons. He is signed through 2019 and is set to make $14 million next season, after cashing in for $8.5 million this season.

Romo's 2019 salary jumps to $20.5 million.

The four-time Pro-Bowl selection has a career quarterback rating of 97.1. He has 247 touchdowns, 85 interceptions, and has completed 65.3 percent of his career attempts while posting a 78-49 record as a starter.
