The NFL suspended Cleveland Browns rookie wide receiver Jordan Payton four games for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances.

Payton's suspension without pay is effective immediately and he will be eligible to return to the active roster on Jan. 2, the day after the Browns' final game of the season.

Payton, a fifth-round pick out of UCLA, has seen limited playing time this season, appearing in four games with one catch for three yards.
