Minnesota Vikings' Mike Zimmer to undergo emergency eye surgery

By The Sports Xchange

Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer is having emergency eye surgery Wednesday night, making his status for Thursday's game against the Dallas Cowboys uncertain.

"I have met with the coaches and players and we have a contingency plan in place if Mike is unable to coach against Dallas," Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said in a statement Wednesday night.

Zimmer had a torn retina in his right eye repaired following an Oct. 31 game at Chicago.

"I've had some trouble with my vision for a couple days, and during the game, I scratched on my eye," Zimmer said after the previous surgery. "So, the doctors, after the game, they checked and had me get in for an appointment and I found out that I had a torn retina.

"They said if you don't take care of those things that you have a possibility of going blind."

Spielman will be made available Thursday morning, with additional details expected to be shared.

The Vikings (6-5) aim to end the Cowboys 10-game winning streak Thursday at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minn.
