Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins is hoping to return for Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars after being designated to return this week from injured reserve.

Watkins was sidelined for eight games due to soreness stemming from offseason foot surgery.

Watkins was listed as limited on Thursday's injury report and also was limited Wednesday when he practiced for the first time since being placed on injured reserve Sept. 30.

Bills coach Rex Ryan expressed optimism Thursday about Watkins' return to the field on Sunday.

"I'm not sure, but I think there's a possibility of that. I do," Ryan said after practice. "As long as there's not another setback or anything like that, I feel pretty good about him playing. He can run a little bit. He looks pretty good to me."

Watkins, who would have a limited role against the Jaguars if he does play, last played in a Sept. 15 loss to the New York Jets in Week 2.

The Bills must decide by Dec. 14 to add Watkins to their active roster or he will revert to injured reserve for the remainder of the season.

Watkins said he doesn't feel pressure to take the field for Sunday's game.

"There's always pressure on us athletes, but not to go out on the field and not feel good. I'm not going to do that," Watkins told the Buffalo News on Wednesday. "But if I feel good, of course, I'm going to go out there and play and I'm going to do my best. But it's really about being healthy. If I'm healthy enough to play and they think I'm healthy, then I'm going to go out there. I'm not going to go out there unhealthy."
