CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram was placed in the concussion protocol during the Thursday night game against the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium.

Ingram, who appeared shaken up at least once in the first half, sustained the latest injury on a 13-yard rushing play with the Saints trailing 23-3 midway through the third quarter.

Meanwhile, Panthers center Ryan Kalil, the anchor of Carolina's offensive line, left in the second half due to a shoulder injury.

The status of a potential return was listed as doubtful.

Kalil missed the previous 2 1/2 games with a shoulder injury. Gino Gradkowski was his backup, but he was inactive Thursday night because of an injury, so the Panthers turned to backup guard Chris Scott to hike the ball.
