Fantasy Football: Darren Sproles is "lead back" for Philadelphia Eagles

By Alex Butler

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- The guessing game is over for now about who is the top running back for the Philadelphia Eagles.

On Monday, Eagles coach Doug Pederson said that Darren Sproles will be the team's No. 1 running back in front of Ryan Mathews.

"Right now, by stats and what you are seeing, I'd say Darren is the No. 1 back right now," Pederson told reporters. "Ryan is still a big part. You saw the touchdown run yesterday. Kenjon [Barner] had a nice run. Wendell [Smallwood] had a nice run. It's still a little bit of a running back by committee. Obviously we haven't hung our hat on one guy. But we tend to lean more toward Darren Sproles. It's hard to take him off of the field right now."

Mathews played 11 percent of the Eagles' snaps in its Week 0 loss to the New York Giants. He has played 16 total snaps in the last two games. This season, Mathews has 287 rushing yards and five rushing scores. Sproles played 60 snaps this week and 63 snaps last week. Sproles ran for 57 yards on 13 carries Sunday. He had 103 yards from scrimmage on 20 touches in Week 8 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Sproles should be an RB2 in PPR formats for the rest of the season. He is a reasonable flex option in standard formats, especially during bye weeks.
