Fantasy Football: Week 6 Add/Drops on Waiver Wire Wednesday

By Alex Butler

MIAMI, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- You probably know by now if your fantasy football season is over or if you will be fighting for a playoff spot.

Whether you are 0-5 or 5-0, your fantasy team could always improve. Last week, football fans watched skill position players step into bigger roles and bye week replacements show their value. With that, you might have a tough decision to make this week between starting a player on the rise or a big name that hasn't played to his draft position.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

QB | Marcus Mariota, Tony Romo; RB | Jay Ajayi, Dwayne Washington; WR | Chris Hogan, Corey Coleman, Terrance Williams, Davante Adams; TE | Hunter Henry; D/ST | Tennessee Titans

TOP DROPS

QB | Ryan Tannehill; RB | Charles Sims, Derrick Henry; WR | Markus Wheaton, Brandon LaFell; TE | Coby Fleener, Jared Cook

QUARTERBACK

Chicago Bears quarterback Brian Hoyer is once again one of my top adds this week. Hoyer's 397-yard, two touchdown performance against the Indianapolis Colts was his third consecutive game of 300-plus passing yards and two touchdowns. He has snatched away the Bears' starting quarterback job from Jay Cutler and is not giving it up anytime soon. Hoyer has another plus matchup in Week 6 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He is a top-10 play in Week 6. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith has a great schedule ahead and could be a top-12 play for the next few weeks. Smith faces the Oakland Raiders in Week 6, then the New Orleans Saints, Indianapolis Colts, and Jacksonville Jaguars. This week he is a sneaky QB1, facing a Raiders defense allowing the third most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.

RUNNING BACK

Chris Ivory is a risky play based on workload, but he should be healthier returning from the Jaguars' Week 5 bye. I expect him to double up on the eight carries he had in Week 4 and be a low-end RB2 against the Bears. James White is perfectly suited for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots' offense. He is a pass-catching running back who should be on the field a ton for an offense that lives to throw the football. White had nine touches for 90 yards in Week 5 against the Browns. I see that as his floor for fantasy points. White and the Patriots host the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 6, White will fill Dion Lewis' role until he returns later in the season.

WIDE RECEIVER

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Sammie Coates is filling in nicely for Martavis Bryant as Ben Roethlisberger's deep threat. But he isn't purely boom-or-bust. Last week against the New York Jets, Coates had 11 targets. He turned those targets into six catches for 139 yards and two touchdowns. This week, Coates should be a WR2 against the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins have allowed the sixth-most fantasy points this season to opposing wide receivers. After losing Kevin White again to injured reserve, the Bears looked to Cameron Meredith. Meredith responded with nine catches for 130 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Colts. He also had 12 targets from Hoyer. Meredith looks like a great play again this week against the Jaguars. With Hoyer booked for another performance of 300-yards and multiple scores, Meredith is a WR3 in Week 6.

TIGHT END

The days are numbered for when you can pickup Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Ladarius Green. Green should return from an ankle injury soon. When he does, he will be an integral part of the Steelers' offense as another option for Roethlisberger. If you are shallow at tight end, he's worth adding to your bench. He will be a top-10 play when healthy. Buffalo Bills tight end Charles Clay always finds his way onto the fantasy football radar. Clay had a season-best performance of five catches for 73 yards against the Los Angeles Rams. With Sammy Watkins gone for a bulk of the year, Clay is one of Tyrod Taylor's top targets. This week, Clay and the Bills face a San Francisco 49ers defense allowing the 11th most fantasy points to opposing tight ends. He is a top-12 play for me in Week 6.
