Ichiro Suzuki: Miami Marlins pick up option on veteran outfielder

MIAMI, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- The Miami Marlins agreed to bring back 42-year-old outfielder Ichiro Suzuki in 2017. Ichiro is due $2 million and hit .291 this season.

Suzuki is a 16-year MLB veteran with a career .313 batting average. His .291 mark this season was his highest average since 2010, for when he played more than 143 games with one team. Suzuki also joined the 3,000 hit club this season in Miami and now has 3,030 career hits.

He is currently ranked No. 24 on the all-time hit list and could move up to No. 19 if he has the same number of hits this season as he did last season [95]. Alex Rodriguez currently sits at No. 19 with 3,115 career hits.

Suzuki has more career hits than any active player. Adrian Beltre is currently ranked No. 34 all-time, with 2,942 career hits, followed by Albert Pujols, Carlos Beltran, and Miguel Cabrera.
