BUFFALO, N.Y., Sept. 22 (UPI) -- If you haven't yet benched Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins, you might not have a choice this week.

Watkins is in serious jeopardy of missing Sunday's contest against the Arizona Cardinals. On Thursday, coach Rex Ryan told reporters: "there is some concern Sammy Watkins will not play Sunday," according to ESPN's Mike Rodak.

Watkins, 23, is ailing from a foot injury. Sitting out could be good for the second-year wide receiver. Watkins has a difficult match up against Cardinals stud Patrick Peterson, one of the NFL's top cornerbacks.

AZCentral's Kent Somers reported Wednesday that Peterson will shadow Watkins in the contest.

Watkins is a very risky WR3 for Week 3. I would recommend going with another player in that spot if you have other options. You should only start Watkins if you are desperate or in a deep league.

On Tuesday Watkins said he will keep playing through the injury.

"That's kind of out the window," Watkins told BuffaloBills.com. "I know what I'm doing with it. The team knows what I'm dealing with. It's up to me to go out there and play. If I'm out there playing I can't feel sorry for myself. The foot is not an excuse or issue."

Watkins is due $3.1 million next season and has a club option in 2018. He has just six receptions for 63 yards through two games.
