MIAMI, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- New York Giants running back Rashad Jennings could be the quiet benefactor of an explosive offensive juggernaut this season.

While many will look to ironman quarterback Eli Manning and stud receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to expand upon stellar campaigns in 2015, Jennings' improved workload should not go unnoticed.

The team released Andre Williams last week. Williams previously served as a goal-line and short-yardage specialist. ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported that Jennings is now "in line for more goal-line carries" after Williams' departure. Shane Vereen should resume his role from last season, when he netted 59 receptions in his first season for the Giants.

Jennings was underwhelming in the preseason, rushing 13 times for 20 yards.

Even before Williams was cut, Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News reported that Jennings was the "clear" No. 1 running back.

In July, Jennings told the Newark Star-Ledger that he was "getting into" his prime.

"I'd say just some growth," Jennings told Joe Giglio. "There's a difference between being an NFL player and being a pro. I think everybody that's played the game can attest to that. Being an NFL player is a guy that comes into the league, has some talent, plays a little bit. But a pro really understands how to take care of his body, how to play the X's and O's, play the game before it happens. I've just been allowing my maturity to catch up with my age at the same time. I'm excited. As I get into my latter years, I'm getting into my prime."

Jennings had 863 yards and three touchdowns on a career-high 195 carries last season. He also had 29 receptions for 296 yards and a receiving touchdown. Although he will see plenty of work, Jennings has the ceiling of an RB2, but should be a steady flex play all season.
