Fantasy Football Alert: Philadelphia Eagles trade QB Sam Bradford to Minnesota Vikings

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Don't throw in the towel yet, Minnesota Vikings fans.

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported Saturday morning that the Vikings have acquired quarterback Sam Bradford from the Philadelphia Eagles.

The NFC North champion was in turmoil after watching quarterback Teddy Bridgewater go down to a horrific knee injury in practice this week.

Minutes before Schefter's update, fellow ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan reported that the deal was a "long shot." Caplan said that the Vikings inquired and that he would "never rule anything out..."

Bridgewater, 23, was placed on injured reserve after suffering a torn ACL and dislocating his knee. He also suffered other structural damage, ending a promising 2016 season. He completed 292-of-447 passes, for 3,231 yards, 14 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in 2015.

Bradford, who missed overlapping running back Adrian Peterson at Oklahoma by one year, completed 346-of-532 passes, for 3,725 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions in 2015. The 28-year-old was the top pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.

After his first four NFL seasons with the St. Louis Rams, Bradford was traded to the Eagles in 2015. On Saturday he was traded for a 2017 first-round pick and a fourth-round pick in 2018. The Vikings were previously set to kick off the 2016 campaign under 36-year-old Shaun Hill.

The Bradford acquisition is great news for the entire Vikings offense, who took a step back in fantasy football projections under Hill. Although Bradford won't be coming in to win games by himself, he will be much more adequate in a game-manager role. Adjust your rankings accordingly for the Vikings' pass catchers if you dropped them when Bridgewater went down.

In May, Bradford's agent, Tom Condon, told the "Rich Eisen Show" that they requested a trade from the Eagles with a goal of "placing [Bradford] in Denver."

Bradford was in the mix of several trade rumors this offseason before a brief holdout with the Eagles. He signed a two-year, $36 million contract in March. Bradford's deal includes $26 million guaranteed.

Bradford was the 2010 offensive rookie of the year. He has completed 60.1 percent career pass attempts for 78 touchdowns and 52 interceptions.
