IRVINE, Calif., Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Todd Marinovich was cited for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and trespassing this weekend in Irvine, according to the Orange County Register.
According to reports, the former University of Southern California and Los Angeles Raiders quarterback is facing several charges after being found nude with drugs in someone's backyard. Police arrived at the residence at 9 p.m. Friday to find the 47-year-old carrying the items in a brown bag.
The Raiders drafted Marinovich No. 21 overall in the 1991 NFL Draft.
This isn't the first time Marinovich has found drug-related trouble. In 1990 he was arrested for cocaine possession. The Raiders dropped him after just two seasons. He was also arrested in 1997, 2000, 2005, and 2007 for separate drug charges.
"The caller stated that there was a naked person on Venta Spur Trail," Irvine police Commander Mike Hallinan told the Register.
While TMZ reported Marinovich to be in possession of meth, Hallinan said he suspects the drug, but the substance discovered will undergo testing.
"It is a tragic story. We found him hiding in a backyard. Someone else's backyard," Hallinan told the Los Angeles Times.
In eight NFL appearances, all stars, he completed 104-of-205 passes for 1,345 yards, eight touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
Marinovich has two children.
