Green Bay Packers WR Jeff Janis out with broken hand

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jeff Janis' bid to make the 53-man roster hit another obstacle in the form of an injury.

Janis sustained at least one broken bone in his right hand during Wednesday's practice session, according to a report by ESPN.com.

The third-year wideout, a seventh-round draft choice by the Packers out of Saginaw Valley in 2014, was inactive for Friday night's preseason contest against the Cleveland Browns.

Janis told ESPN that the injury "doesn't help" his chances of making the final roster. Janis has struggled in camp and failed to build on his stunning postseason in 2015, when he hauled in seven receptions for 145 yards and two touchdowns in a 26-20 loss to Arizona.

In his first two seasons with the Packers, Janis managed a total of four catches in 19 regular-season games.

Janis, 25, was expected to be in the mix for a prominent role among Green Bay's wide receiving corps, particularly with Jordy Nelson slow to recover from a season-ending knee injury in August 2015.
