Despite coach Adam Gase saying the Miami Dolphins had "no juice" at Saturday's training camp session, he's a big fan of the nectar in its receiving corp. Gase gushed about wide receiver Jarvis "Juice" Landry, despite watching his offense shrivel against a menacing defensive line. He called Landry the grittiest player he has been around.

"I don't think I've ever been around a guy that has as much grit as him," Gase said of Landry. "There is something about him where he wills himself...he's at a different level when he's going against that secondary. There is something inside him that's different than anybody that I've been around. He's a fun guy to coach. He's a fun guy to watch compete. I know he's really hard on himself. He's a perfectionist. I love how he just keeps striving to get better. I think [receivers coach] Shawn Jefferson is the perfect guy for him. The intensity between those two guys is a fun thing to be around all the time."
Landry, who was college roommates at LSU with Odell Beckham Jr., says that he and his famous friend "don't expect nothing less than greatness from each other."
"We don't expect anything less and that's the standard we hold each other to and that's what we live by," Landry said.
Landry had 137 receptions, for 1,809 yards, and 15 scores in three seasons at LSU. Beckham had 143 receptions, for 2,340 yards, and 12 touchdowns in three seasons for the Tigers. In Beckham's best season as a Tiger, he had 59 receptions, for 1,152 yards, and eight scores. That same season, Landry snagged 77 receptions, for 1,193 yards, and ten scores.
But the duo has also been close statistically in its first two NFL seasons. Beckham has risen to the elite level of NFL receivers, snagging 187 receptions, for 2,755 yards, and 25 touchdowns in 27 games. Landry has 194 receptions, for 1,915 yards, and nine touchdowns.
"He's rare because he is a guy that can play inside and outside," Gase said of Landry. "Normally the guys that I've been around have been strictly an inside guy or strictly an outside guy. His ability to do both and the variety of routes he can run is very impressive."
It's no small compliment from Gase, to shine light on Landry's grit. He has "been around" pass catchers like: Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery, Demaryius Thomas, Wes Welker, Emmanuel Sanders, Julius Thomas, Isaac Bruce, and Calvin Johnson.
Landry welcomed the presence of veteran running back Arian Foster, who seems to be ahead of second-year back Jay Ajayi in a preseason position battle.
"Arian is a playmaker," Landry said. "He's another weapon for us on the field, and not only that, he's a leader. That's something this team needs."
Gase was not so impressed with the offense after practice.
"The defense went to another level," Gase said. "They took it even more than they did last time. This time, offensively, there was just no juice whatsoever. It was just like a walk through."
"It will be interesting when I got back and watch it. Just kind of take a peak of it tonight and see it first, but there just was no juice."
Landry said he has not set any personal goals yet for this season, but is displaying his skills to the coaching staff.
"We are getting close to the season," Landry said. "I'm just trying to focus on my game. Continue to keep learning this offense. Find myself within our offense and show the coaches that I can make plays. Continue to do that. Continue to stay consistent. So for me, I don't really have any set right now, true goals set right now, but in the near future I should."
