OXNARD, Calif., Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott could own the most important hamstring in the NFC east this preseason.

That's why the Cowboys aren't taking it lightly with it comes to managing his latest injury.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told reporters Wednesday that Elliott will miss "some time" with a sore right hamstring. Jones did not have a "definitive timetable" for Elliott, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

Elliott, 21, did not finish practice Tuesday and the team will remain to take a "conservative" approach with the rookie running back.

ESPN's Ed Werder said he expects Elliott to miss about a week of action. On Wednesday, the Star-Telegram reported that a decision on abuse allegations against Elliott "might come soon."

Cowboys offensive coordinator Scott Linehan had high praise for the rookie recently at camp.

"He learns quick," Linehan told the Dallas News. "He makes mistakes like young players do, but I haven't seen him make the same one twice."

The Cowboys selected Elliott with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Elliott rushed for 3,961 yards and 43 touchdowns in three seasons at Ohio State.
