New York Giants inducting Tom Coughlin, Ernie Accorsi, Justin Tuck into Ring of Honor

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., July 19 (UPI) -- A triumphant trio of New York Giants royalty will be inducted into the team's Ring of Honor this season.

Former coach Tom Coughlin, Pro Bowler Justin Tuck, and former general manager Ernie Accorsi will receive the honor on Nov. 14, at halftime during a Monday night game against Cincinnati.

"When you start working in the National Football League, this is not something you would ever dream could happen," Accorsi told Giants.com. "I've seen these in different stadiums, and when you see all the great players and coaches up there, it's not something I ever thought could happen. I can't even put into words what an honor it is, especially with this franchise. It's overwhelming that someone who started at the bottom in this league could end up with some of the names up there, like Lawrence Taylor and Frank Gifford. It's just incredible for me to get this."

In 2004, Accorsi hired Coughlin. Coughlin drafted Tuck out of Notre Dame one year later.

"It was a great privilege to be the 16th head coach of the New York Giants, and it's a privilege and a tremendous honor to be a part of those great names in Giant folklore that are in the Ring of Honor," Coughlin told Giants.com. "It's something Judy (his wife), my family and I very much appreciate. The New York Giants, to me, is the greatest franchise in the history of the NFL. We recognize the long history of the Giants and the greatest city in the world, the tremendous coaches and players that have represented the Giants over the years. It's a great honor to be included in the same breath with some of these prestigious former players and coaches."

Accorsi served as Giants GM from 1998 through 2006. He retired in 2006, before the Giants won the Super Bowl in 2007 and 2011. He also served as general manager for the Baltimore Colts and Cleveland Browns. Accorsi was instrumental in acquiring Eli Manning in a 2004 draft day trade with the San Diego Chargers.

The trio's inclusion means that 42 men are now a part of the Giants honor.

"Accorsi will be the Ring of Honor's second general manager (joining George Young), Coughlin its fourth head coach (Steve Owen, Jim Lee Howell and Bill Parcells), and Tuck its fifth defensive end (Andy Robustelli, George Martin, Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora)," Giants.com reported.

Coughlin coached the Giants from 2004 to 2015. He compiled a 102-90 regular season record and was 8-3 in the postseason. Tuck had more than 500 tackles and 60.5 sacks in 127 regular season games for the Giants.

The Giants Ring of Honor was created in 2010.
