Trevor Siemian has shot to start for Denver Broncos

DENVER, July 11 (UPI) -- It isn't very common for a Super Bowl championship squad to revert to its third string quarterback as it begins a title defense.

The Denver Broncos could be doing it this season.

According to Broncos.com's Andrew Mason, Trevor Siemian has a "legitimate shot" to start.

The Broncos will not be going back to a shoe-in Hall of Famer, in Peyton Manning, following his retirement. The team acquired Mark Sanchez this offseason and drafted Paxton Lynch in the first round. Still, coach Gary Kubiak insists that Siemian is "neck and neck" with Sanchez.

This isn't the first encouraging news we have heard about the 2015 seventh-rounder. In May, Kubiak told the Denver Post "not to sleep" on Siemian winning the starting gig.

Siemian, 24, did not complete a pass last season. He had one rush for negative-one yard in total. He signed a four-year, $2.33 million contract, including a $52,780 signing bonus, last year.
