SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- After three days of letting his actions do the talking for him, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick finally addressed the media at the end of the minicamp.

His message: He's happy to be here.

"I don't think it's been an awkward situation," he said of an offseason that included a near-trade to Denver. "That was a business aspect of football.

"I'm here. I'm excited to be with (coach) Chip (Kelly) and these (assistant) coaches. The offense has been amazing. My teammates have been great with their support. I'm excited to be back on the field with them. The fan support I've gotten through everything has been amazing. It's made me excited to be out here and play."

The 49ers could have cut ties with their former starter in the offseason, which would have saved them $11.7 million. But now that money is guaranteed, whether or not he beats out Blaine Gabbert for the starting spot.

Kaepernick wanted to make something clear Thursday: He'd like all future discussion to be football-related.

"At this point, everything is football," he insisted. "I'm excited about what's to come.

"My health is doing well. I'm happy to get back out on the field. Everything's coming along, progressing as planned. At this point, I can really get rolling. I'm ready to compete, ready to give this team everything I have."
