Von Miller is not putting his signature on the dotted line with the Denver Broncos, and the two sides are nowhere near a contract agreement six weeks before the start of training camp.

The Super Bowl MVP outside linebacker would be left to play the 2016 season under a $14.129 million franchise tag if a deal is not reached by July 15. As an exclusive rights free agent, he is not eligible to receive offers or negotiate with other teams.

Miller and the Broncos agreed on years and total value of a new contract -- six years for more than $114 million with $39.8 million guaranteed the first two years -- but not on how the money is paid out, according to multiple reports.

Miller said during a White House visit on Monday that there was real progress in the negotiations. But he has not participated in the Broncos' offseason program and Tuesday's breakdown in talks signals not enough progress was made.

The Broncos signed wide receiver Demaryius Thomas, who had also been designated as Denver's franchise player, to a long-term deal hours before the July 15 deadline in 2015.

The 27-year-old Miller was the No. 2 overall pick in 2011 behind only Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton.

Miller finished the 2015 regular season with 11 sacks and helped led the Broncos to the Super Bowl 50 championship by wreaking havoc on defense. He added five sacks and two forced fumbles in the postseason.

If the two sides fail to reach an agreement before the July deadline, it's unclear whether or not Miller might sit out the 2016 season.
