Philadelphia Eagles GM names Sam Bradford "starting quarterback"

PHILADELPHIA, April 25 (UPI) -- Despite desperately dart-throwing for quarterback candidates this offseason, Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman insists that Sam Bradford is the team's starter.

"I want to reiterate our support for Sam Bradford. He is our starting quarterback," Roseman told CSN Philly's John Clark.

The Eagles signed backup quarterback Chase Daniel and traded Mark Sanchez to the Denver Broncos in March. Before those transactions, the team traded Kiko Alonso, Byron Maxwell, and the No. 13 pick in the 2016 NFL Draft to the Miami Dolphins for the No. 8 overall selection.

On April 20, the team acquired the No. 2 overall pick and a fourth round pick in 2017 from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for the No. 8 overall selection in 2016, a 2016 third-round pick, a 2016 fourth-round pick, a 2017 first-round pick and a 2018 second-round pick.

The Eagles are expected to select North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz in Thursday's draft, if the Los Angeles Rams decide to select California's Jared Goff with the No. 1 overall selection.

Earlier Monday, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported that the "Eagles have been informed Sam Bradford wants to be traded and he will not be showing up for their off-season program any longer, per source."

This March, Bradford, 28, signed a two-year, $36 million deal, with $26 million guaranteed. Days later, Daniel signed a three-year, $21 million deal, with $12 million guaranteed.

The Eagles' attack averaged 255.4 passing yards per game this season, the seventh most in the NFC.
