Jerry Jones has said a quarterback will not be in play for the Dallas Cowboys with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, and the Los Angeles Rams' aggressive trade up to the top spot Thursday almost assures that to be true.

It also makes the Cowboys one of the unwitting winners of the blockbuster deal between the Rams and the Tennessee Titans.

With the Rams now poised to land their franchise quarterback - their eyes reportedly set on North Dakota State's Carson Wentz - passers are likely to come off the board with the first two picks, whether the Cleveland Browns nab Jared Goff for themselves or a handful of picks from another team looking to grab the former Cal star.

That puts the San Diego Chargers in position to land NFLDraftScout.com's top overall prospect, Ole Miss left tackle Laremy Tunsil, who will be difficult to pass up with quarterback Philip Rivers being sacked 155 times over the past four seasons.

In that scenario, the Cowboys will be sitting in the catbird seat with their pick of the top defensive player in the entire 2016 NFL Draft class.

The Sports Xchange has identified defensive end and cornerback among Dallas' top three team needs. Do they go with versatile defensive back Jalen Ramsey to bolster a secondary in desperate need of a playmaker, or Ohio State's Joey Bosa to fortify a d-line that currently sports DeMarcus Lawrence coming off back surgery as its lone experienced end under contract?

Beautiful problem to have for Jones & Company. Ramsey and Bosa are currently rated as NFLDraftScout.com's Nos. 2 and 3 overall prospects. With UCLA linebacker Myles Jack and Oregon defensive end DeForest Buckner also strong top 10 candidates, the Cowboys could also be in position to slide back a few spots, add some additional draft picks to the cupboard and still land an elite defensive prospect.

The trickle-down effect also puts Jacksonville at No. 5 and Baltimore at No. 6 in prime position to have a top-three prospect fall into their lap. The Jaguars could find themselves landing whoever slips through the cracks from the Cowboys between Ramsey and Bosa, or snag Jack to fill a real position of need with a Day One impact player. The Sports Xchange lists linebacker and a pass-rushing defensive end as need areas one and two for Jacksonville, and a playmaker of Ramsey's caliber would be a welcome addition for any franchise.

The Ravens could find themselves in position for the steal of the first round with Ramsey, Bosa or Jack likely to be available - with an outside shot of landing Tunsil if the Chargers decide to go defense and the former Rebels star slides a few more spots. At the same spot in 2015, NFLDraftScout.com's top-ranked defensive player fell to the Jets in the form of Southern Cal defensive tackle Leonard Williams.

Time will tell if the Rams' bold move will prove a score or an historic flop, but Los Angeles' new franchise undoubtedly did a few other teams - and at least one quarterback prospect - a strong favor in shaking up the top two picks in the 2016 NFL Draft.
