The Minnesota Vikings officially announced the signings of offensive tackle Andre Smith and two others on Friday. Smith reportedly agreed on a one-year deal worth up to $4.5 million. He announced his decision on Twitter on Thursday.
Smith was the sixth overall pick out of Alabama in the 2009 draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. He has made 73 starts in seven seasons.
Current Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer was formerly Cincinnati's defensive coordinator, helping Smith feel comfortable with departing the Bengals.
Minnesota also officially signed cornerback Terence Newman and defensive end Justin Trattou.
Newman signed a one-year, $3 million deal on Tuesday and enters his 14th NFL season. He previously played under Zimmer while they were together with the Dallas Cowboys and Bengals.
Newman has 40 career interceptions and was a first-round pick (fifth overall) of the Cowboys out of Kansas State in 2003.
Trattou has appeared in 21 NFL games. He had two interceptions last season while playing in five games.
