DENVER, March 11 (UPI) -- Emmanuel Sanders had such little faith in the Denver Broncos quarterback corps, before signing Mark Sanchez, that he suggested signing a fictional gunslinger.

After the Super Bowl champs lost Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler in just a week, Sanders had a brilliant tip for the Broncos' front office: Sign Uncle Rico.

"Uncle Rico considered real target to fill QB void," Sanders said on Twitter Thursday. "Has great experience throwing [in] or over mountains."

Sanders continued the joke with ESPN's Trey Wingo, after Wingo tweeted: "Laugh now, he may be at OTA's."

"Source close 2 team "love his arm action. Throws 1/4 mile - w/ thin air at mile high, range is full mile," Sanders tweeted in response.

Sanders went on to make a good point about the "Napoleon Dynamite" character.

"He has that clutch gene you want in your QB," Sanders added. "When the game is on the line his confidence grows."

Before trading for Sanchez, second-year quarterback Trevor Siemian was the only quarterback on the team's roster. Siemian has never thrown a pass in the NFL and has one rushing attempt for negative-one yard.

ESPN kept up the theme Friday, posting a video of the best fictional quarterbacks. The short video included: Uncle Rico, Shane Falco, Johnny Utah, Matt Saracen, Johnny Moxon, Junior Floyd, Willie Beamen, and Paul Crewe.

The Philadelphia Eagles traded Sanchez for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Sanchez, 29, is due $4.5 million, with $1 million in guaranteed money this season.
