Mike Ditka: Barack Obama is "worst President" ever

CHICAGO, March 4 (UPI) -- Another ESPN employee is throwing caution to the wind when it comes to the company's political policy.

Days after former MLB pitcher Curt Schilling said Hillary Clinton should be "buried under a jail somewhere," Mike Ditka targeted President Barack Obama.

On a Thursday appearance on the Bernie and Sid morning radio show on WABC-AM, Ditka said Obama was the "worst president we've ever had."

"Barack Obama's a fine man," Ditka said on the New York show. "I mean, he's pleasant. He would be great to play golf with. He's not a leader. This country needs leadership. It needs direction. It needs somebody that steps up front. We need somebody like Ronald Reagan."

Ditka said that he would "probably" vote for Donald Trump.

"Every once in a while you're going to get punched in the chops. But you keep going forward. That's all there is to it," he added. "You know it's not always going to be a perfect situation, but to do what he does, there's no leadership there. I think that becomes very disgusting to me."

ESPN's has its 2016 presidential election coverage policy posted online.

"We should refrain from political editorializing, personal attacks or "drive-by" comments regarding the candidates and their campaigns," the policy says. "Approved commentaries on sports-specific issues, or seeking responses from candidates on relevant news issues, are appropriate. However perceived endorsements should be avoided. (In others cases guidelines on social media, acceptable commentary and political advocacy should prevail)."

Ditka briefly talked about Hillary Clinton. ESPN has declined to address the comments.

"There's a lot of qualified people that are better than [Hillary Clinton]," Ditka said. "That's what I'm trying to say. You know, you've got to pick your poison. Does Donald do everything right? No. The people that hate him, hate him, but people like him because he says things that resonate with what they think.... If I were to vote tomorrow, I'd probably vote for Trump."

Ditka, 76, held a 121-95 record in 14 years as an NFL coach for the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints.
